Butterfly

Broken wing
flapping in the hazy breeze
body buried in the sand

Furiously fighting
struggling for life
uncovered

Too heavy
too tired
to fly

Wing bent precariously
it jumps
flutters to the ground

futile?

My front porch

Sunlight fading into shadows on my front porch
dancing shadows
overlooking a sweeping arm
eroding
reaching out to embrace
a milleneum of raindrops
another 24 hours
blown away
in the wind
of another day's
choices
hopes
losses

Street Sweeper

Lillies lying limp
in the gravel
built up on the sides
of roads
A funeral procession
for another season
washing down the sewer
with tears dripping from
the mourning clouds

Words

You
Confront
Me
The harsh tone
of your words
liquid nitrogen
freezing my thoughts
my words inside me
behind a dam of ice
Words void of meaning
trickle out
if anything at all
you have struck me silent
again
If you think that I'm lying
its because I am
If you think that I am hiding
behind this facade
its because I am
You can't seem to see
that those words you have
frozen up inside of me
are now too big
and too sharp
to come out

on past mistakes

living out in the cold
has made me pale
and weak
bleeding my heart out
on the pure snow
and I have darkened
my neighbors yard again
with a terrible
oily
red
stain-
snow that you wish
would just melt
away
and stop mucking up
the view

Distance

The distance between
my feet and the ground
seems to be getting
bigger
further from where I
started
where I wanted to be
who I wanted to be
while little spiders
weave their webs around me
keeping me here
in this space
unable to move

Water Over Air

Ancient fog
crawling over the water
digging its claws
into its surface
deeply scarring
its face
with ice
